In March 2020, HBO announced that they were developing a series based off ‘The Last of Us’ video game series. Craig Mazin, who created the acclaimed limited series ‘Chernobyl’ for HBO. Is teaming up with Neil Druckmann, the writer and creative director of the video games to bring this world to life. Throughout the last year; we got confirmation that Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones) was cast as Ellie. Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian, WW84) was cast as Joel. Gabriel Luna (Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D) has been cast as Joels younger brother Tommy. Kantemir Balagov (Beanpole) was announced to be directing the pilot. The Last of Us is set to start filming from July 2022 through May 2022. Sources at TheGWW have recently learned the character descriptions.
PLOT:
Based on the critically acclaimed video game, the story takes place twenty years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel, a
hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Elie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job, soon becomes a brutal and heartbreaking journey; as they both must traverse across the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.

joel:
(Male, 40s/50’s, Caucasian or BIPOC) A brutal survivor with few moral lines left to cross. Joel has been hardened by the ravages of the fungal pandemic that has devastated civilization as we know it. Joel has lost friends, family, and everything he valued in life. Living in one of few remaining military-controlled quarantine zones, he operates as a black market smuggler, dealing in contraband, taking numerous de-humanizing jobs over the years to survive in this new post-pandemic world. Joel’s conscience slowty dwindles away as he shuts down his emotions to cope to his new life. (1 year deal with a few episodes in season 2 to start that season)
ELLIE:
(Female, actress, 16 to play 14). A brave, 14-year-old girl, Elie has grown up in this harsh world and it is all she has ever known. She’s an orphan who was raised in a boarding school run by the military within the bounds of the quarantine zone. Naive and curious about the outside world, she is wise beyond her years and highly capable of taking care of herself and those around her. Ellie is obsessed with comic books, CDs, and other pop culture. Her knowledge base is filled by the remnants of a world that no longer exists. MULTI-YEAR DEAL.
