The Fast and Furious movies certainly have come a long way. What began as a fun but standard riff on Point Break has become a multi-billion dollar franchise. It’s made stars out of the likes of Vin Diesel, created a spin-off for two of its characters (Hobbs & Shaw, releasing on August 2 of this year), and, as of Fate of the Furious, attracted such names as Charlize Theron (who played the villain Cipher) and Helen Mirren (who played Magdalene Shaw, mother of previous franchise villains Owen and Deckard Shaw).
And, as Diesel announced on his Instagram, both of those actresses will be returning! The actresses are joining an already stacked cast featuring Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, and Nathalie Emmanuel all returning to their respective roles as well. This ninth installment of the mainline Fast & Furious series will also feature the first appearance of John Cena.
Currently filming, Fast & Furious 9 is aiming for a release date of May 20, 2020.
