Variety confirmed that actor Ron Glass, who had a forty-year career in television and film passed away. He was 71. No apparent cause of death released to the public.
The actor, originally from Evansville Indiana got his start in television on All in the Family back in 1973. He worked steadily until landing he role of Detective Ron Harris on the sitcom Barney Miller from 1975-1982. He worked consistently for years until receiving the role that brought him to the forefront of Geek culture.
In 2002, Ron Glass took the role of Shepherd Derrial Book on the cult classic series Firefly. Although the series only lasted one season, Glass and his character (a mysterious religious man with an even more mysterious past) made their mark on the culture. Glass returned to play Shepherd Book again in the 2005 film Serenity. He most recently guest starred on the pilot episode of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
