Five Actors Who Should Play Solid Snake In Sony’s METAL GEAR SOLID Movie

Mar 6, 2015

While the fifth Metal Gear Solid game won’t be released until September there is already serious development at Sony to get the feature film adaptation into theatres.

David Goyer (Blade, Batman Begins, Man of Steel, Call of Duty Black Ops 2) is currently working on the film’s script with Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kings of Summer) confirming he’ll direct once he’s finished making King Kong: Skull Island. I don’t think this got much attention when he originally made the announcement on Twitter.

Skull Island‘s casting is impressive as hell which includes Michael Keaton, J.K Simmons and Tom Hiddleston. Which makes me believe that Sony and Jordan could end-up eyeing serious talent for the role of Solid Snake. I have some ideas of who they should pursue along with two names that have already been linked to the project.

CHRISTIAN BALE: Christian has been linked and a fan-favorite ever since the rumors first started circling that a movie was in the ether at Sony. Bale was repeatedly asked about his involvement and even gave MTV a blurb admitting he plays the game, while not having any discussions about the role.

He’s a damn fine choice and since he’s dabbled with a action roles like this you can’t blame fans for wanting him as Snake.

HUGH JACKMAN: The game’s creator Hideo Kojima revealed via IGN his dream actor would be Hugh Jackman.

“If I talk to much about this Avi might get mad at me,” he said, “but after thinking about it more, it’s probably better to go for someone new, a rising star, someone who hasn’t been typecast before as a particular kind of character, so that’s the route we’re going right now.

“Avi is very good at finding these people, and I think we can find someone who can make it big and have Solid Snake be their break into the movie industry.”

His characters seen in Prisoners and Chappie will likely help push him more into the direction of a gruff role like Snake. It doesn’t hurt that Hugh is extremely popular in Japan where Gear is likely to have a huge fan audience.

CILLIAN MURPHY: Murphy has been able to oddly miss-out on a couple iconic roles, as he was Christopher Nolan’s original choice to lead Batman Begins. However, he’s been making quite the impact via films like 28 Days LaterSunshine, and Inception, along with the British gangster series Peaky Blinders.

He might not be the first actor one might consider for the role but I feel like he’s ready to finally lead a franchise like this. Cillian is in the same league as Assassin’s Creed‘s Michael Fassbender and Splinter Cell‘s Tom Hardy, I’m sure he could bulk-up for the role to get more of the look down.

FRANK GRILLO: Grillo has been making a name for himself as a got-to actor to play total badasses. It even led to him leading the pointless American remake of The Raid. Personally, I’d rather see him find his own way landing a meaty action franchise role like Metal Gear.

RICHARD ARMITAGE: After leading the action heavy special-ops series Strike Back, making an impact in Captain America The First Avenger, and as Thorin Oakenshield in The Hobbit films Richard deserves a bit more of a straight-forward franchise lead role.

Metal Gear is in his wheel-house and Hideo Kojima has mentioned seeing a less known actor in the role.

Do you like these suggestions? Who do you think should play Snake?

Also, here are the recent trailers for Metal Gear Solid: Phantom Pain and it’s multiplayer feature which looks like another hit for the franchise.
