The Wrap is confirming that former Daredevil showrunner and current executive producer Steven DeKnight has been hired to direct Pacific Rim 2 for Legendary Pictures and Universal.
The project seemingly stalled when Guillermo del Toro had tried to direct it last year, and with his recent flop with the expensive Crimson Peak it was hard to argue with Legendary’s position. I think the world that del Toro created is excellent, but maybe it’s in better hands with someone else directing for the moment.
The script was hatched by Prometheus and Doctor Strange screenwriter Jon Spaihts.
DeKnight was recently hired to be apart of the Transformers brain-trust of writers, to help figure out what to do with future installments and spin-offs.
