Fox Marvel Movies Slated For October 2017 and January 2018 ; ‘Gambit’ and ‘Deadpool 2’?

Feb 28, 2016

20th Century Fox has given release dates to two untitled Marvel projects, which we are assuming are neither Fantastic Four sequel. The dates are October 6th, 2017 and January 12th, 2018.

Box Office also confirmed that Gambit indeed won’t be coming this October, as the project hasn’t even begun production making the release date would be impossible, even if special effects and the score weren’t a factor, but they are.

It’s looking very strongly like Gambit could be taking that October date, as it was originally set to drop in that month this year. Gambit needs a 2017, but is being hard-pressed to find one as Fox has mapped-out most of the summer dates already. Their summer releases include Kingsman 2 in June, Apes 3 in July, and now Alien: Covenant in August.

Releasing the film in May 2017 might be another option, but giving Gambit plenty of post-production time isn’t a terrible thing.

Deadpool 2 is likely taking that January date, as Marvel Studios has moved in on their February turf releasing Black Panther that month. The writers have suggested a sequel could be ready for release in 2018 and the studio would likely want in theaters within the next two years, since it’s been greenlit.

Although, some are are assuming they could be X-Force and New Mutants, this doesn’t really make any sense. Neither X-Force or New Mutants currently have directors. Jeff Wadlow (once attached for X-Force) is busy making Hitman’s Bodyguard with Ryan Reynolds and Josh Boone (announced director for New Mutants) is currently directing Stephen King’s Revival in the fall with Sam Jackson.

They could very well ask for a new director to come in to make X-Force and New Mutant, but there’s no sign of that actually happening at the moment.

Bryan Singer is also off making 20,000 Leagues for Fox, making this harder for me to believe this is another main X-Men film either.

It should be noted while Gambit and Deadpool 2 have been greenlit by the studio, New Mutants and X-Force have not. The latter is in need of a total page-one rewrite on the script, as revealed by Rob Liefeld.

This could change, but in my mind it looks like the spots are for projects we know need dates.
