G7 Launches “Hiroshima AI Process” to Set International Standards for Generative AI

May 22, 2023

Overview

The Group of Seven (G7) aims to establish an international standard for generative AI and has announced the “Hiroshima AI Process,” which will create a report on setting standards for safety and trustworthiness by the end of the year. The G7 is concerned that regulation has not kept up with the advances and spread of AI technology, and hopes to set at least initial standards. The organization suggested the need for AI rules to address potential risks as generative AI becomes more prominent across countries and sectors. Other countries such as the European Union and China have already issued strict rules surrounding the technology. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and other generative AI company executives have started drawing more attention from regulators in recent months.
