‘Gambit’ Role Going To Another Actor and Lea Seydoux Eyed?

Jul 30, 2015

Ever since it’s been teased by both actor Channing Tatum and producer Lauren Shuler Donner, it seemed like a lock Fox would sign him for the role of Gambit. It would lead to announcements that a solo film would be written by X-Men comic writer Chris Claremont and Robocop‘s Joshua Zetumer . Rise of The Planet of The Apes‘ Rupert Wyatt is set to direct this fall, and while other roles are being cast, it’s looking like they might have replace the male lead as well.

The Wrap reports that the deal between the studio and Tatum are seemingly breaking down, with it being possible he’ll end up walking from the film. It’s a bit shocking, since Fox gave Tatum some creative control as a producer, and was heavily involved with finding it’s director, reaching out to some big names. Channing recently appeared at Comic-Con for Fox’s Marvel panel, who was sporting a Gambit tee and posing for photos with fellow X-Men actors.

Some have suggested that Tatum’s directing debut could be a conflict with the production, and may stay on as a producer, but give up the role to another actor.

Another tidbit includes that French actress Lea Seydoux is being eyed for the female lead. Lea is best known for her roles in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Blue Is The Warmest Colour, Inglourious Basterds, and the upcoming Bond flick Spectre. It’s not a sure bet she’ll land the role, but having a high profile should help her chances.

Her role could be Bella Donna Boudreaux from the Assassin’s Guild, a love interest and eventual enemy of Remy.

Gambit is tentatively set with the release date of October 7th, 2016.
