‘Ghostbusters’ Taps Art Director Tom Reta (‘Rampage’) & VFX Supervisor Sheena Duggal (‘Venom’)

Jason Reitman’s ‘Ghostbusters’ now has both a supervising art director and visual effects supervisor in its expanding crew.

Supervising art director Tom Reta has been part of a wide array of films over the years. Some of the “greatest hits” include ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,’ ‘The Cabin in the Woods,’ ‘Red Dawn,’ ‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation,’ ‘Blackhat,’ and ‘Transformers: The Last Knight.’ His most recent film was the Dwayne Johnson film ‘Rampage.’

Visual effects supervisor Sheena Duggal has been a regular collaborator on Marvel projects. She’s been part of ‘Spider-Man 3,’ ‘Iron Man 3,’ ‘Thor: The Dark World,’ ‘Agent Carter,’ ‘Doctor Strange,’ and ‘Venom.’ She was also VFX supervisor on ‘Matchstick Men,’ ‘Body of Lies,’ and ‘The Hunger Games.’ Her recent film was the Gina Rodriguez film ‘Miss Bala.’

Production designer François Audouy (‘The Wolverine,’ ‘Logan’) and cinematographer Eric Steelberg (‘Up in the Air,’ ‘A Quiet Place’) recently came aboard the film.

The premise is below:

“Set in the universe of the original two Ivan Reitman films, the story revolves around a single mom and her family, who have mysterious ties back to the first 1984 movie.”

However, the characters from the Paul Feig reboot will not be returning, due to the film being outside of continuity. The screenplay is from Reitman (‘Juno,’ Tully’) and Gil Kenan (‘City of Ember,’ ‘Monster House’).

Sony and Reitman are also currently casting two of the young leads. The first is an unnamed teenage boy character, a conspiracy theorist that is really into fantasy. The second is a pre-teen girl, a science kid that has trouble connecting with others on an emotional level, understanding feelings and not be aware how hurtful her comments can be.

Meanwhile, Carrie Coon (‘The Leftovers,’ ‘Avengers: Infinity War’) is in talks for the mother role. Also, Finn Wolfhard (‘Stranger Things,’ ‘It’) is in talks for the teenage boy role.

Additionally, while not official, original actor Ernie Hudson has stated that the original actors may be returning.

Filming will begin on-or-about June 25th, for 15 weeks, in Calgary, Alberta. The on-location shoot in Canada will wrap around October 8th.

Sony Pictures will release the film on July 10, 2020.
