Thanks to Total Film, we now know that Mike Dougherty and Zach Shields did rewrites on the upcoming ‘Godzilla vs. Kong.’
Dougherty is the director of ‘Godzilla: King of the Monsters,’ as well as the co-writer with Shields.
Below is Dougherty’s full quote:
“We did some rewrites on the [‘Godzilla vs. Kong’] script, just to help carry certain themes across, and to flesh out some of the characters. It was my first time writing for King Kong, so it was a thrill.”
This is inspiring news, showing Legendary is encouraging other filmmakers from the franchise to give input on their big culmination.
Further, the duo also wrote 2015’s ‘Krampus,’ the previous film Dougherty directed. Other films Dougherty has written include ‘X2: X-Men United,’ ‘Superman Returns,’ and his directorial debut ‘Trick ‘r Treat.’
The cast of the second ‘Godzilla’ includes Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, Bradley Whitford, Sally Hawkins, Charles Dance, Thomas Middleditch, Aisha Hinds, O’Shea Jackson Jr., David Strathairn, Ken Watanabe, and Zhang Ziyi.
Moreover, director Adam Wingard (‘You’re Next,’ ‘The Guest’) is currently on-set for principal photography of ‘GvK.’ The screenplay is from Terry Rossio (‘Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl,’ the original ‘Aladdin’), after he led a writers room to develop the story for the film in March 2017. He also was a writer on ‘Shrek,’ so this will be the greatest movie ever made.
Meanwhile, the cast of the epic ‘Godzilla’ and ‘Kong’ crossover comprises of Alexander Skarsgård, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Shun Oguri, Eiza González, Jessica Henwick, Julian Dennison, Kyle Chandler, Demián Bichir, Lance Reddick, and Zhang Ziyi.
Warner Bros. will be releasing ‘Godzilla: King of the Monsters’ on May 31, 2019 and ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ on March 13, 2020.
