Goodbye ‘Tron 3’; Disney Rebooting ‘Tron’ With Jared Leto Circling Lead

Mar 3, 2017

While there has been rumblings of Tron 3 getting resurrected after the sequel was cancelled, we have official word it’s indeed dead.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Disney has other plans for the Tron franchise and are looking to reboot it with Oscar-winner Jared Leto circling the lead role of new character Ares.

Sources say this new project is not a direct sequel and is being built out of the source code of the deleted Tron 3 script. Leto would play a character named Ares, who has not appeared on screen before but was a key player in that script.

At this stage it’s too early to tell if Kosinski or actors from Tron: Legacy will return.

Leto has attempted to move forward into more blockbuster territory with landing the Joker role and more recently taking a key role in Blade Runner 2049. I don’t think this is such a terrible idea but will need to know about the creative team developing it.

We have our fingers crossed that Disney is smart enough to bring back Daft Punk to score the film.

However, I wouldn’t be terribly upset if they went with The Glitch Mob instead.

No official word concerning writers or director, so production is likely very far away if development hasn’t started.
