“Never Quit”
Simon and Jessica continue to find themselves trapped in the past training the first Green Lanterns to use their rings to fight off the rampaging Volthoom. As Jessica trains one of them in deep space, Simon (still without a ring) is overseeing a covert mission to take Volthoom by surprise. In the Science Citadel, the Guardians are trying to decide how to best end the threat and their choices are pretty bleak. As Volthoom continues to become overwhelmed by the emotional spectrum, the new Lanterns begin to press the advantage in order to bring down the threat.
Unfortunately, as unstable as Volthoom is with the new powers that he has, he turns out to be a deadly one as Lantern after Lantern falls as their rings
The story in this issue continues to be entertaining as the Lanterns, their history and the role Simon and Jessica are playing in it comes to the forefront. The moments with Volthoom are interesting as well as he attempts to use the powers he has to do good, but is immediately overtaken by the negative aspects of the spectrum. Humphries writing is pitch-perfect for both characters and the art by Barberi is not only great to look at, but conveys a mix of both beauty and tragedy. Can’t wait to see how this ends.
