Guy Ritchie’s Knights of the Round Table Begins Filming

Mar 10, 2015

It appears that filming has commenced on Guy Ritchie’s new take on the King Arthur legend, Knights of the Round Table. The film, starring Pacific Rim and Sons of Anarchy lead Charlie Hunnam, is the beginning of a hopeful six film epic series that will follow the legend of King Arthur. Ritchie himself announced the film’s inaugural day of shooting on his twitter:

I’m very, very hopeful for Ritchie’s new take on the Arthur legend, because I think it’s something that lends itself to a massive film series. With Game of Thrones being all the rage right now, this is the perfect time to revisit the tales of Arthur, Lancelot, Guinevere, and Merlin, and the others, especially as a sweeping epic tale.

Ritchie is a fantastic filmmaker, with the likes of Snatch, Lock, Stock, and Two Smokin’ Barrels, and the two Robert Downey, Jr. Sherlock Holmes films underneath his belt, it’ll be interesting to see him tackling something so different. His has a unique style all his own, and it’s one that could be really fun to watch unfold in his eyes. I think his style of action, which is heavily stylized, could make for a fascinating take in Medieval times. It could also make the battle sequences, which will hopefully be plentiful, exhilarating and fun, making them different than many of the swords and sandals films we’ve seen over the last few years.

Guy Ritchie’s Knights of the Round Table stars Hunnam, Eric Bana, and Astrid Berges-Frisbey, with Djimon Honsou and Jude Law circling the film as well. The film is currently slated to open against Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters and the new Lionsgate PowerRangers film on July 22, 2016.
