Haley Lu Richardson Fights for Water in The Last Survivors (Review)
The Last Survivors
(Dark Sky Films)
Directed by: Thomas S. Hammock
Starring: Haley Lu Richardson, Booboo Stewart and Jon Gries
Although this movie takes place in Oregon, it might as well be California if we continue with this drought. It’s ten years in the future and after an apocalyptic event we turn to the Oregon Valley where a young girl lives. The valley has run dry. No more water. Seventeen year old Kendal (Haley Lu Richardson) has the last working well in the area. Each day she siphons a little water out for the remaining people that are hiding in other run down farms and houses in the area. In the meantime she is also caring for her injured friend Dean (Booboo Stewart) who is in their hiding space because he is too weak to move around.
Of course if there is only a little bit of water left, so there must be a madman who wants to control it. That madman is Carson (Jon Gries) who is the land owner. Carson and his crazy followers are out looking for and killing people. This is his land and water no one shall be on it. Any survivors he comes across seem to meet their end. This is where Kendal takes control and starts to fight back!
This is a very interesting movie that will keep you glued to your TV. It can be slow in the beginning, but stay tuned in because it will start to really get moving towards a big crescendo of an ending. Haley Lu Richardson is just terrific in this film. It is nice to see a young female fight and take control of a movie. She handles a katana like she has been doing it for years. Watch out Jennifer Lawrence you have some competition coming up in the ranks.
Overall a very good and thought provoking movie. There are a lot of hidden gems out there in the independent film industry, so don’t be afraid to sit down and watch one! You might just be impressed.
This movie is now available on Video on Demand, Digital Download and also DVD/Blu-Ray!
