Climbing the rank ladder in League of Legends is not easy, and many players feel like it’s even harder if you choose to play support.
That’s because, on the surface, support players get the least amount of power or control over the fate of each match. To win, you must get carried, so you’re effectively giving up the most important roles to your teammates.
If they don’t perform the way you’d want them to, you cannot possibly win on your own because you don’t have enough items and levels.
But if you think about the game more deeply, you will see that the support role is actually very impactful. You just need to know how to play it.
What Is MMR In LoL
In League of Legends, MMR is the hidden number that tells the matchmaking system how skilled you are. If you’ve ever wondered “what is my MMR?”, you can find it using an MMR checker.
To increase your LoL MMR, you must play well in your games and win most of them. But how do you do that if you’re a support player?
Winning As A Support In LoL
When you play the support role in League of Legends, there are certain things that you must either do or avoid if you want to have a big impact. These are the most important principles to follow:
Do Not Steal Last-Hits And Kills
Novice players are constantly tempted to hit the lane minions or even steal last-hits from their cores out of fear that they will go to waste otherwise. That may be true in some cases, but for the most part, you must allow your teammates to farm without disrupting them.
If they don’t, their opponents will get ahead in gold and the game becomes much harder to win.
The same principle applies to kills. You don’t want an enemy to escape certain death just because you refused to attack or use your abilities. But you don’t want to take kills when it’s obvious that your cores can get the job done.
In League of Legends, kills yield a substantial reward, especially for the player who landed the killing blow. Sometimes, that gold is exactly what your carry or mid needs to complete the purchase of their next big item. It could amount to an entire minute of farming.
Combined with the respawn time of the enemy champion, the strength difference could increase to almost 2 minutes. This means that your carry could reach his power spikes much faster than the enemy carry, which is very useful when taking objectives.
Keep The Lights On
As a support, you must take some risks in warding and dewarding the map. Games are often won by superior map vision and they are also lost by poor map vision.
Your teammates will expect you to spend time making sure that key areas are warded and dewarded. Without this benefit, they won’t be able to farm safely. One unexpected death could be enough to lose you the game.
Specialize But Be Versatile Enough To Counter-Pick Your Opponents
If you’re afraid to try new champions on your main account because you’ve already reached a certain rank and don’t want to lose it, simply purchase League smurf accounts. You cannot spam the same champion over and over again and expect to reach the top ranks.
When you only play several champions, the enemy can easily target you for bans or pick champions that are naturally good against your favorite picks. Have at least 5-10 support champions that you can play well and you will win a lot more often.
In LoL, if you want to make progress, even a 3% win rate increase is very significant.
