The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Watchmen and Robocop actor Jackie Earle Haley has joined the cast of Robert Rodriguez’s Alita: Battle Angel. Jackie Earle would play a unnamed cyborg villain that will require a lot of CGI and greenscreen work, we assume this could be the character Grewcica (a visual definition of cyberpunk).
Sources were light on character information but it is believed Haley will play a monstrous cyborg in a villain role that will call for plenty of CG and greenscreen.
I wouldn’t be terribly surprised if the some of the cyborg characters are done with motion-capture.
Maze Runner‘s Rosa Salazar is in the lead role of Alita with Christoph Waltz wanted for the role of mentor Doctor Ido.
Production is set to begin this October in Austin, Texas.
