Jake Gyellanhaal Taking Another Crack At Video Game Films With ‘The Division’

Jun 2, 2016

The Division is a video game developed and released by Ubisoft, according to Varkety it’s also getting a feature film adaptation, not unlike December’s Assassin’s Creed starring Michael Fassebender at 20th Century Fox and the upcoming Splinter Cell film starring Tom Hardy setup at Paramount.

The third-person shooter is set in a dystopian New York City in the aftermath of a smallpox pandemic. The player, who is an agent of the Strategic Homeland Division, commonly referred to as simply “The Division,” is tasked with helping to rebuild the Division’s operations in Manhattan, investigating the nature of the outbreak and combating criminal activity in its wake.

Jake Gyellanhaal (Nightcrawler, Southpaw, Prisoners) will produce and star in the film, with a search currently underway to find a writer and a director, they haven’t named a studio but the other Tom Clancy project being at Paramount could mean they’ll have first dibs.

This isn’t Jake’s first film based on a video game, he previously starred in Disney’s whitewashing tale of The Prince of Persia, which bombed at the box office costing Disney hundreds of millions of dollars in the process.
