More Gunn leads to more fun as there was a huge announcement from James Gunn on his Facebook page this week. The writer and director of both the original Guardians of the Galaxy and its upcoming sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 took to his Facebook page to make a huge announcement ahead of the press screenings for the sequel film due out May 5.
The director announced that he will be coming back to write and direct the third film in the popular series. He told his Facebook followers that he could have waited to answer the question to a random reporter, but he decided to go to the fans and tell them. “So, yes, I’m returning to write and direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. In the end, my love for Rocket, Groot, Gamora, Star-Lord, Yondu, Mantis, Drax, and Nebula — and some of the other forthcoming heroes — goes deeper than you guys can possibly imagine, and I feel they have more adventures to go on and things to learn about themselves and the wonderful and sometimes terrifying universe we all inhabit. And, like in both Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, we will work on creating the story that goes beyond what you expect.”
No word yet on what the plot of a third Guardians of the Galaxy could be, but according to Gunn himself.”It will conclude the story of this iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy, and help catapult both old and new Marvel characters into the next ten years and beyond,” he wrote. “I will be working side-by-side with Kevin Feige and the gang to help design where these stories go, and make sure the future of the Marvel Cosmic Universe is as special and authentic and magical as what we have created so far.”
There is also news that there will be five after credits scenes in the film as well. Also confirmed by the director on Twitter. With the film tracking to make over $150 million in its opening weekend, there should be plenty for fans to sink their teeth into when the movie premieres next month.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 soars into theaters May 5, 2017.
