The full cast list for Warner Bros. sort-of sequel to ‘Suicide Squad’ has been revealed! And with it, we got nine new actors onboard!
So, without further ado, here are the new cast members:
- Alice Braga (‘Elysium,’ ‘Queen of the South’)
- Juan Diego Botto (‘Lifeline,’ ‘Good Behavior’)
- Joaquín Cosio (‘Narcos: Mexico,’ ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’)
- Sean Gunn (‘The Belko Experiment,’ ‘Avengers: Endgame’)
- Jennifer Holland (‘American Horror Story,’ ‘Brightburn’)
- Tinashe Kajese (‘The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks,’ ‘Valor’)
- Mayling Ng (‘Wonder Woman,’ ‘The Scorpion King: Book of Souls’)
- Michael Rooker (‘Guardians of the Galaxy,’ ‘True Detective’)
- Julio Ruiz (‘Preacher,’ ‘S.W.A.T.’)
Mayling Ng is presumably the monstrous femme fatale character, who is a surly, creature-like, muscular alien woman.
Below are the previously announced actors, which are now all confirmed:
- Steve Agee (‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,’ ‘Superstore’) as Nanaue, aka King Shark
- Flula Borg (‘Pitch Perfect 2,’ ‘Counterpart’) as a love interest to one of the characters
- John Cena (‘Blockers,’ ‘Bumblebee’) as Peacemaker, aka Christopher Smith
- David Dastmalchian (‘Blade Runner 2049,’ ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’) as Polka-Dot Man, aka Mister Polka Dot
- Pete Davidson (‘Saturday Night Live,’ ‘The Dirt’) in a small cameo role
- Viola Davis (‘Fences,’ ‘How to Get Away with Murder’) as Amanda Waller
- Peter Capaldi (‘Doctor Who,’ ‘Watership Down’) in an unnamed role
- Jai Courtney (‘Terminator Genisys,’ ‘Alita: Battle Angel’) as Captain Boomerang
- Idris Elba (‘Luther,’ ‘Hobbs & Shaw’) as not Deadshot, likely Bronze Tiger or Sportsmaster
- Nathan Fillion (‘Firefly,’ ‘Castle’) in an unknown role
- Joel Kinnaman (‘Altered Carbon,’ ‘Hanna’) as Rick Flagg
- Daniela Melchior (‘The Black Book,’ ‘Valor da Vida’) as Ratcatcher, aka Maria the Millennial
- Storm Reid (‘A Wrinkle in Time,’ ‘When They See Us’) as the daughter of Idris Elba’s character
- Margot Robbie (‘I, Tonya,’ ‘Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood’) as Harley Quinn
- Taika Waititi (‘What We Do in the Shadows,’ ‘Thor: Ragnarok’) in a role under wraps
At this point, a cameo from ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ actor Dave Bautista is very likely, but there is currently no information to support this theory.
Meanwhile, James Gunn serves as writer and director for ‘The Suicide Squad’ (the current title anyway). The film follows David Ayer’s 2016 film ‘Suicide Squad,’ but rather than a straight sequel, this is described as a new take on the property from the mind of Gunn that will feature a mix of new and old characters. Further, the project is very much rooted in Gunn’s vibe, as seen in his ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ movies.
Moreover, the crew comprises of:
- Cinematographer Henry Braham (‘The Golden Compass,’ ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2′)
- Costume designer Judianna Makovsky (‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,’ ‘Avengers: Endgame’)
- Production designer Beth Mickle (‘Drive,’ ‘Only God Forgives’)
- Second unit director and supervising stunt coordinator Guy Norris (‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy, ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’)
- Visual effects supervisor Kelvin McIlwain (‘Aquaman,’ ‘Shazam!’)
Further, filming will begin September 23rd and wrap on-or-around January 31st in Atlanta, Georgia.
Warner Bros. will release the film on August 6, 2021.
