Jared Leto To Lead ‘Spider-Man’ Spin-Off As Vampire Anti-Hero ‘Morbius’ – Daniel Espinosa To Direct

Jun 27, 2018

Some interesting news concerning future Spider-Man spin-offs as Variety reports that Jared Leto has taken the lead role of doctor turned vampire in Sony’s Morbius solo film with Daniel Espinosa (Safe House) set to direct the Marvel film.

Lost In Space writers Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama were recently tasked to pen the script.

They suggest filming could begin as early as later this year, However, neither a release date or production start isn’t mentioned in the article.

Daniel Espinosa had been circling multiple X-Men projects in the past only to be looked over or pass on them.

Doctor Michael Morbius is a peer of Peter Parker, who turns himself into a vampire during a failed science experiment. Unlike regular vampires in the Marvel universe, he is created with technology and not other vampires. Hence the name Morbius The Living Vampire, he’s not undead.

It’ll be interesting to see what version they’ll ultimately go with and if we could end-up seeing Morbius interacting with either Peter Parker or his nemesis/ally Blade The Vampire Hunter. Blade’s rights were recently reverted from New Line Cinema back to Marvel Studios, which led to a script treatment years back with no sign of moving forward anytime soon.

Other spin-offs include Venom releasing in early October, a Black Cat and Silver Sable film which was recently delayed until 2019, and Spike Lee’s Nightwatch.

Ultimately, there has to be a point where Sony and Marvel figure out if they’re going to have these movies connect to the larger MCU or not.
