Deadline dropped some exclusive news this morning on the current status of The Crow remake from Sony and it’s pretty big.

According to sources, actor Jason Mamoa (Aquaman) formally withdrew from the remake this morning. Not only that, but the film’s director Corin Hardy (The Nun) has left the production as well. Production was set to begin in Budapest this summer with a release date of October 11, 2019.

It’s being reported that Sony was making the decision to leave the production as distributor due to creative and financial differences with Samuel Hadida, whose company Davis Films holds the rights and was financing the film. Sony announced last year that it would be distributing the film worldwide, but the inability to close the deal with Hadida put Sony on the path to leave, prompting the departure of both Mamoa and Hardy directly afterwards.

Jason Mamoa will next be seen later this year in the DC Comics film Aquaman from Warner Brothers. Corin Hardy’s next film The Nun is a spinoff of the Conjuring 2. No release date has been given.

With the departure of both the star and director of The Crow along with the distributor, the film itself might be dead in the water at this point. I will update this story as new information is released.
