The Wrap reports another addition to the growing cast of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. They report that latino actor Jay Hernadez (Hostel, Friday Night Lights, Crazy Beautiful) has joined the production but fail to reveal his character. Ayer makes a point to keep his casts diverse and adding Hernadez speaks to that.
The site suggests that Jay could be playing a character on the same cellblock as The Joker. It’s also possible that Jay’s character might be Black Spider as the studio is seemingly taking a lot inspiration from the animated film Assault On Arkham. Nothing is certain and they’ll likely start casting non-DC character roles eventually.
UPDATE: Latino Review says that Hernadez is playing Chato Santana aka El Diablo and the role will be more of a cameo.
Squad‘s cast also includes Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jared Leto as The Joker, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang and CaraDelevingne as Enchantress.
Actors Joe Manganiello (Magic Mike, Sabotage, True Blood, Spider-Man) and Jason Clarke (Dawn of The Planet of The Apes, Terminator Genisys) are said to be in the mix for Slade Wilson aka Deathstroke.
It’s production is expected to begin this April at Pinewood Studios Toronto with a release date aiming for August 2016.
Ayer has been posting behind the scenes photos on his Twitter account and one looks to show-off Deadshot’s fancy sniper rifle.
