Jensen Ackles Joining The Boys Season 3 as Soldier Boy

Aug 18, 2020

In a surprise move, Jensen Ackles announced on August 17th on Instagram that he will be starring in The Boys Season 3. Ackles is perhaps most known for the hit show, Supernatural, which is going to end later this year after 15 seasons. As such, Ackles is clearly looking to make his mark in other roles; The Boys is going to be one of them by the looks of his Instagram video and caption: “I keep wondering what I’ll do….when @cw_supernatural finally ends this year. Then it hit me.” The Boys’s official Twitter confirmed the casting news along with the reveal that Ackles will be playing Soldier Boy.

Who is Soldier Boy?

In the comics, Soldier Boy was the first superhero, and a war-hero who fought against the Nazis in World War 2. Soldier Boy is an obvious parody of Captain America from his look to how he was portrayed in the comics. The TV show will most likely be doing its own take on the character but fans should expect some elements to remain the same.

The Popularity of The Boys

Amazon are clearly banking on The Boys as their hit show having green-lit Season 3 before Season 2 has even aired. Now it looks like progress is already being made on Season 3 with casting underway. Furthermore, the show runner of The Boys, Eric Kripke, is eyeing another star, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, for a role in Season 3 if schedules allow.

For now, fans can look forward to Season 2 of the popular superhero show, set to air on September 4th. Amazon will be dropping the first three episodes then; however, in order to keep conversation going for weeks on end, the streaming service will be releasing the rest of the episodes weekly. The Boys is Amazon’s “Game of Thrones” or “The Walking Dead”, and the streaming service is going to capitalise on the show’s popularity with audiences and critics as much as possible.

Keep your eyes peeled for my review of the first three episodes of Season 2 dropping on August 24th after 9AM PT.
