Joe Carnahan Exists ‘Bad Boys For Life’; Will He Direct ‘The Raid’ or ‘X-Force’ Next?

Mar 8, 2017

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Bad Boys For Life aka Bad Boys 3 has lost its director. As Joe Carnahan has officially stepped down as the third film’s director.

An insider tells The Hollywood Reporter that the director has left due to scheduling conflicts, but other sources say it was the dreaded “creative differences.”

It’s possible this was indeed a scheduling issue as it looked like the production start was going to be pushed back until the fall. Joe is said to be working on multiple projects and this might have been just too much for him. Then again, Will Smith and Sony could have been a problem as well.

This news comes on the heels of Joe recently announcing development on a remake of The Raid with Captain America’s Frank Grillo and reports he could be writing/directing Fox’s upcoming X-Force movie as well. It sounds like both projects are still in development stages, so it’s unclear which one go first.

However, Deadpool 2 is expected to complete filming in September and we’re unsure if Ryan Reynolds is looking to shoot two X-Men films back-to-back. There’s also the more likelihood that The Raid is bumped up and given priority. We don’t have official word from Fox or even a trade report supporting Joe’s rumored involvement with X-Force at this time.

I guess we’ll have to wait for official word on what is next for Carnahan and the fate of Bad Boys 3.
