John Woo’s ‘Manhunt’ Remake Lands Zhang Hanyu and Masaharu Fukuyama

Director John Woo, best known for Hong Kong cult action films The Killer and Hard Boiled will be returning to the action genre.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Woo will be remaking the 1976 Japanese film Kimi yo fundo no kawa wo watare aka Manhunt.

A tough police detective is falsely accused of corruption, and goes on the run to clear his name. He is assisted by the beautiful daughter of a rich man.

Chinese actor Zhang Hanyu (Taking of Tiger Mountain, The Great Wall) and Japanese actor Masaharu Fukuyama (Galileo) have landed lead roles.

It was the first Japanese film to play in China after the cultural revolution. Eventually becoming a huge influence on a generation of Chinese audiences and filmmakers. Manhunt also turned legendary Japanese actor Ken Takakura into a big sensation in China.
