Joseph Kosinski’s next directing vehicle will be ‘Spiderhead’ for Netflix. Kosinski’s resume includes ‘Tron: Legacy,’ ‘Oblivion,’ and ‘Only the Brave.’
Also, the screenplay is by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick. The extremely sought out duo are famous for the ‘Zombieland’ and ‘Deadpool’ franchises. This year will have two films from them: Michael Bay’s ‘Six Underground’ starring Ryan Reynolds, also at Netflix, and Sony’s 10-year-later sequel ‘Zombieland: Double Tap.’
The film is an adaptation of the George Saunders short story. The premise is below:
“Set in the near future, when convicts are offered the chance to volunteer as medical subjects in hopes of shortening their sentences. When one prisoner finds himself the test patient for a new pharmaceutical capable of generating feelings of love, he begins questioning the reality of his emotions and sets out to discover the truth.”
Additionally, the project is on the fast track for Kosinski to direct after he finishes post-production on another years-later sequel. That film is ‘Top Gun: Maverick,’ which has Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer returning. Newcomers include Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm and Miles Teller.
Further, casting will begin shortly. Netflix has not set a release date yet for the film.
