UK game developer Rebellion and IM Global Television have teamed up to bring a science fiction cult classic to the small screen.
The companies announced that in line with the 40th anniversary of the comic that first featured the exploits of Judge Dredd, 2000 AD, there will be a new live action television series based on the character and his world. According to the release from the developers of the series;
Judge Dredd: Mega City One will be an ensemble drama that follows a team of Judges – futuristic cops invested with the power to be judge, jury, and executioner – as they encounter the myriad challenges of a world in which east-coast cities have merged into a giant megalopolis.
Dredd has been brought to the screen previously by both Sylvester Stallone and Karl Urban.
IM Global Television President Mark Stern said of the project; “This is one of those seminal sci-fi properties that seems to only become more relevant with age,” said Stern. Not only is it a rich world with biting social commentary, but it’s also fun as hell! As a fan of the comics and both films, it’s a dream come true to be able to work with Jason and Chris in adapting this for television.”
The executive producers of the 2012 film Jason and Chris Kinsgley will oversee the adaptation. No casting news has been announced, but expect more information to come rolling in as the show begins to develop.
Let me know what you think. Who would you like to see play Dredd on the new series? Leave your comments below.
