Kevin Smith Announces ‘Clerks III’ (Again)

Oct 2, 2019

Kevin Smith wants to keep playing with his old toys. With the impending release of ‘Jay and Silent Bob Reboot,’ Smith is turning his sights on another sequel in his View Askewniverse entry with ‘Clerks III.’ The filmmaker took to social media to announce the third chapter.

Before ‘Reboot‘ was a thing, Smith announced his intentions to make ‘Clerks III.’ But Jeff Anderson was not interested. So he set his sights on sequelizing ‘Mallrats,’ and even turned it into a TV series. But no one was interested in airing that, so he moved on to ‘Jay and Silent Bob Reboot.’ Now that Anderson seems to be back on good terms with Smith, ‘Clerks III’ is a go again.

Smith is writing a brand new script for the sequel. The original script was a bit darker, and it didn’t leave Dante and Randall in a place that the characters deserved. Smith also claims that ‘Clerks III‘ “concludes the saga”. At one point, ‘Clerks II’ served as the conclusion, and Smith had plans to kill off Jay and Silent Bob in a movie he has yet to make called ‘Moose Jaws.’ But he changed his mind and now ‘Reboot‘ exists, with plans for ‘Clerks III.’ It wouldn’t be surprising if the ‘Mallrats‘ TV show happened again too, after the popularity of the characters escalate once again.

I do not doubt Smith’s intentions, but I will believe that ‘Clerks III‘ happens when cameras start rolling. It’s great that he was able to mend fences with Affleck and Anderson. That is the most important part in all of this.

See ‘Jay and Silent Bob Reboot‘ in theaters October 15 or October 17 via Fathom Events, or when they tour the movie in your town. You can check dates at RebootRoadshow.com
