The runaway success of Rian Johnson’s whodunnit ‘Knives Out’ was one of the more pleasant bits of movie news to come from 2019. It was critically acclaimed, commercially viable, and earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay.
So it comes as no surprise that Lionsgate has already announced the development of a sequel. Jon Feltheimer, CEO of Lionsgate, confirmed the news during a conference call with investors, while also reconfirming that ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ is also gearing up for production later this year.
Rian Johnson stated his desire to follow more adventures of Daniel Craig’s ace sleuth Benoit Blanc numerous times during the film’s press tour, but clarified that he would need to have a screenplay first.
This would also give Craig a new franchise to follow, with the upcoming Bond film ‘No Time to Die’ set to be his final outing as 007.
There has been no other word on a production start date or release date. However, it is likely filming will commence this fall, and release November 24, 2021.
