Legendary Hires ‘Krampus’ Screenwriters Michael Dougherty and Zach Shields To Pen ‘Godzilla 2’

Oct 20, 2016

Legendary Pictures has hired screenwriters Michael Dougherty and Zach Shields of Krampus to pen their Godzilla sequel, as reported by Variety.

Sources tell Variety that Michael Dougherty and Zach Shields, who wrote “Krampus” for Legendary, are on board to pen the script for the next installment in the “Godzilla” franchise. Sources have also indicated Legendary might be preparing to set up a writers room to help create the upcoming Godzilla-King Kong universe the company has planned since sending the distribution rights for “Kong: Skull Island” back to Warner Bros. after originally setting pic up at Universal.

Michael could be asked to direct Godzilla 2 as well, he’s currently attached to direct a sequel to Trick ‘r Treat. He’s also no stranger to genre material as he co-wrote X2 and Superman Returns.

Godzilla director Gareth Edwards‘ previous film was Monsters, a low-budget horror film, not unlike Krampus. Gareth has since directed Rogue One for Lucasfilm, it’s unknown if he’ll be returning for the sequel.

It’s also been said that Legendary plans to shoot some of the film on stages in China.

Godzilla 2 is set for release on March 22nd, 2019 and Godzilla vs. King Kong is slatted for May 29th, 2020.
