Hal Jordan and The Green Lantern Corps: Rebirth #1
DC Comics

Written by: Robert Vendetti
Art by: Ethan Van Sciver

The Green Lantern universe is a vast expanse of the DC landscape with a history that is complex, full of tragedy, and rebirth. As DC goes through another major change, so does Hal Jordan and his beloved corps. Fear now rules the universe as the Sinestro Corps have take the place of the Green Lanterns as its protectors. Defeated and broken Hal must single handedly rebuild the Green Lantern Corps using only his will. Hal Jordan and The Green Lantern Corps: Rebirth #1 is both a history lesson and look to the future; a perfect place for any new recruit looking to join the Corp and start reading.

Robert Vendetti takes us through an emerald journey as we get caught up on the state of the Green Lantern universe. Of course its not a complete retelling of everything that’s happened in Green Lantern comics in the past decade but you get all you need to know to move forward with Vendetti and Hal on this new adventure. If the you aren’t new to the Green Lantern universe, you won’t be missing a lot outside Hal forging his own ring and even then I am sure it will come up again. Even though a lot of this issue is a retelling, Vendetti succeeds in making it entertaining, getting you excited for the challenging road ahead for Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps.

As a long time Green Lantern reader, I would argue that, more so than any other book, the art of a Green Lantern series needs to be out of this world. Ethan Van Sciver continues to prove he is the perfect Green Lantern artist as his detail and extravagance make every page a work of art. Van Sciver’s art will hold your attention, both new readers or old, and beg you to turn the page to see more. It’s just gorgeous.

Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps: Rebirth #1 is all history lesson and set up but it succeeds in what a comic is suppose to do and that’s make you want more. Vendetti and Sciver get to literally rebuild the Green Lantern’s from the ground up and I can’t wait to see were the duo takes them. New readers will find this issue an enlightening journey of light, death and rebirth, while long time fans can get excited by whats to come and the amazingly beautiful universe Van Sciver continues to construct.

At an early age I knew I loved two things more than anything else Comic Books and Video Games and no matter how hard my parents tried they couldn't keep me away from the capes and pixels. Now that I have a wife and child of my own I can't wait to share these vast worlds and experiences with them and hopefully you! With GWW I created and become editor of the comics section, which has now become the websites most popular area and features daily post with unique Comic editorials, reviews and previews. Along with Will Elizondo we started the GWW Capes Crew podcast. A weekly show dedicated to to all things Comics, Superheros and Sequential Art. After a year of creating content for GWW I was made its Editor in Chief. I love everything I do and can't think of a better way to spend my time than to spread every form of geekery to every corner of the globe. Comics will all be my passion though and were my heart lies.
