Lucky Devil #1
What if being possessed by a demon is the best thing that’s ever happened to you? That’s the question that Dark Horse’s newest miniseries, ‘Lucky Devil’ asks. It focuses on Stanley, a man whose mediocre life changes forever after he is possessed by a demon named Zed. Then, in a desperate attempt to get rid of the demon, Stanley is exorcized. However, the exorcism goes wrong, and Stanley soon realizes he retained all of Zed’s powers and abilities.

The first issue of the miniseries serves as an introduction to Stanley, his world, and the impact Zed had on his life. The story is a complete subversion of an overused horror trope, the ordinary person who gets mysterious, demonic powers. However, what makes the story special is that it focuses on how those powers changed Stanley’s life for the better and gave him everything he always wanted but never had the guts to do.
Fran Galan’s artwork and El Torres’ colors give the book a very unique horror atmosphere. The scenes where Stanley is possessed really stand out because of their work.
Overall Impressions of Lucky Devil #1 by Dark Horse
Above all, ‘Lucky Devil’ #1 is an amazing story about how power can change a person’s life. Therefore, the first issue is centered around that idea, and Bunn does an amazing job with it. Issue #1’s ending is shocking and there is a lot to be explored over the next issues.
