Mangold Has Spoken To Fox About X-23’s Future Before and After ‘Logan’s Release

May 17, 2017

In an iTunes Q&A hosted by MTV’s Josh Horowitz for the Alamo Drafthouse screening of Logan Noir, director, and writer James Mangold revealed possible studio interest to see X-23 return in future films. Revealing consistent talks if Fox, before and after shooting the film.

Is that the last we’ve seen of X-23, have you talked to the studio, is there potential for more for Laura?

Mangold: “Anything is possible. I’ve certainly talked to them [20th Century Fox] about it. I even talked to them about it before we made the movie. I just think she’s a great character, but with what Dafne did that’s certainly possible.”

Logan has become a massive success earning over $600 million worldwide with its budget slightly under $100 million, so pursuing more R-rated films with Dafne Keen and Mangold in the driver’s seat is obviously a tempting proposition.

X-23 being established as an R-rated character and is a canonical a member of X-Force could mean she might factor into the more bloodier X-Men films. I don’t expect to see her join the ranks for any of the James McAvoy era films, due to Logan being set in 2024 and those movies set decades before. As Bishop and Cable are likely the next time travelers we’ll see next, not Laura.

This wouldn’t be the first time the franchise brain-trust has championed X-23, as Bryan Singer and Simon Kinberg toyed with the idea of her replacing Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine instead of recasting the role.
