What the Joan Jett, Batman?! DC Entertainment and BOOM! Studios announced a six-issue crossover series that will introduce Gotham Academy‘s Detective Club to Lumberjanes‘s mystery-solving teens of Miss Quinzella’s Camp for Hardcore Lady Types [Abridged]. The series, launching in June, will take Lumberjanes‘ Mal, Ripley, Molly, April, and Jo into Gotham City, where they’ll cross paths with Olive, Maps, and undoubtedly some of Gotham’s spookier residents.
Veteran Lumberjanes artist Rosemary Valero-O’Connell will illustrate the series, written by Chynna Clugston-Flores (Blue Monday).
As Zoe Leverant notes in the Village Voice’s announcement, Lumberjanes and Gotham Academy makes surprising sense as a crossover title. Both works follow younger characters working through the normal trials and tribulations of their teen years against the backdrop of some sometimes eerie, sometimes campy supernatural adventures, deftly blending their emotional journeys with humor and a touch of mystery. These are strong titles on their own and will undoubtedly make for a fun limited run. The prospect of a Maps-Ripley team up should make this series an immediate must-read for fans of both comics.
Get this one on your pull list ASAP. If you’re a new Gotham Academy reader, Gotham Academy Vol 2: Calamity hits shelves next week on March 16, and volumes 1 and 2 of Lumberjanes are available in stores now.
