Martin Freeman Could Be Joining ‘Black Panther’ Lineup As Well

May 5, 2015

Badass Digest has now become Birth Death Movies, and they have a bit of information to add with the recent announcement that Martin Freeman has joined the cast of Captain America: Civil War. Devin is hearing that Martin’s role will extent to Black Panther as well which means he’ll likely have some sort of connection to Wakanda or interactions with T’Challa aka Black Panther or Klaw at some point in Civil War. Freeman is now the seventh cast member of the Hobbit franchise to join the MCU.

He suggests Freeman might be playing government official trying to workout relations with Wakanda, but I wouldn’t rule out someone like the Kree hero Mar-Vell or another cosmic character. Chris Evans has stated Civil War sets up Avengers: Infinity War, I do expect we might see a cosmic element involved here and could become front-and-centre in the sequel. Wakanda does often get attacked by alien forces in the comics most recently the Skulls, this might catch the attention of a Kree warrior hiding among humans.

Rumors suggest it might be Agent Henry Peter Gyrich who has been apart of many different U.S. government organizations along with SWORD/Thunderbolts, and was an official government liaison to the Avengers. Gyrich first appeared in Avengers #165 in 1977 which could mean he’s fair game for Marvel Studios, but there are concerns his connections to the X-Men could be an issue.

At the moment only actors expected to be apart the cast of Black Panther currently are Chadwick Boseman and likely Andy Serkis, there is also talk that Ernie Hudson might be playing T’Chaka in the film.

Black Panther is set for release in July 2018.
