It’s now official that Comcast has backed-off trying to outbid Disney to aquire 21st Century Fox. Leaving Disney to move forward with their aquistion.
Disney CEO Bob Iger had the following to say about Comcast’s exit via THR.
“We’re extremely pleased with today’s news, and our focus now is on completing the regulatory process and ultimately moving toward integrating our businesses.”
Wolverine is said to be a top priority to get into the MCU, and might be the first X-Men character (excluding Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver) to join the films. The Russo Brothers along with screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have gone the record on wanting to use him in future films.
I previously mentioned a great way to reintroduce Wolverine into the MCU in a solo film should be a WWII movie as it’s era never covered in an entire film but only in flashbacks. Also, when you have a Highlander-type hero its odd they haven’t done more peroid films with the character.
Fox currently has many Marvel film projects such as Gambit, X-Force, X-23 Doctor Doom, Kitty Pryde, and Multiple Man in various stages of development and have yet to be addressed officially.
James Gunn has also been trying to get his hands on Silver Surfer and Galactus. He once wrote a solo Silver Surfer movie treatment for 20th Century Fox years ago, and might still have a desire tackle that.
We likely won’t be hearing anything concrete until Kevin Feige announces the Phase Four slate, which might be a big reason why they have been really holding off revealing what those films are.
