Marvel Finds It’s Director For ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ In Unknown Taika Waititi

Oct 3, 2015

Today, The Hollywood Reporter announced that up and coming director Taika Waititi is in final negotiations to direct Thor: Ragnarok. Taika Waititi is best known for co-directing the vampire spoof What We Do In the Shadows. He also co-wrote the upcoming Disney film Moana with Dwayne Johnson. In yet another weird directing choice Waititi won out the role from other more known directors Ruben Fleischer, Rob Letterman and Rawson Marshall Thurber. Craig Kyle and Chris Yost penned the screenplay. Kenneth Branagh directed the first film with Alan Taylor directing the second.

Marvel has been known to get unconventional directors for their films like James Gunn for Guardians of the Galaxy and The Russo Brothers for Captain America: The Winter Solider. With most recently hiring director Jon Watts for Marvel’s Spider-Man with him only directing one small feature before Spider-Man.

Thor: Ragnarok hits November 2017
