Marvel Mulling Over Which X-Men Properties Will Be Integrated Into The MCU including Gambit

Mar 29, 2019

In an interesting piece of news, longtime X-Men producer and Dark Phoenix director Simon Kinberg attended the CBS premiere of Jordan Peele’s Twilight Zone reboot. Here the producer revealed that after the Disney/Fox merger closed last week Disney along with Marvel are looking at what X-Men properties can be integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe which included Channing Tatum’s passion  project Gambit:

“All of the movies at Fox are being evaluated.  I love the idea of Channing playing Gambit. I think we have a great script for it and I think it’s a role he was born to play.  It’s a character I grew up loving and I know the fans love. So I suspect, I hope it will happen. There will be a lot of mixing and merging now and I’m all for it and excited to see.”

This bit of news is unsurprising considering we had heard Kevin Feige met with Noah Hawley several months ago to take a brief look at his Doctor Doom solo film screenplay. Now in a bit of reality; it seems very unlikely that Marvel Studios will continue will any type of solo X-Men films that Fox became famous for.

However, Channing Tatum is in the unique situation that he has never officially played the character on screen in any of the Fox films. That means now that Marvel Studios will eventually reboot the characters; he still has every opportunity to play Gambit in a Marvel Studios X-Men film. Unfortunately, his dream of a solo film is just not feasible with Marvel controlling so many characters now. Only time will tell at this point…
