Stacey Osei-Koffour has been tapped to pen Marvel Studios’ upcoming Blade film starting Mahershala Ali who also took part in choosing the acclaimed writer. Osei-Koffour maybe best known for her stent on HBO’s critical hit Watchmen but she has had her hands in other acclaimed television content such as Hulu’s PEN15 and Amazon’s Hunters.
Osei-Koffour becomes the first black female to write a Marvel Studios feature film. No director has been annouced for the project but it is surely next on Marvel’s to do list for Blade.
No other details have emerged about the project but the biggest questions on fanboy’s minds is how much will Marvel allow Blade to stay try to its vampire routes an incorporate the blood, gore, and dark nature we are used to in our vampire fair. The original Blade films starring Wesley Snipes were undoubtly successful for the time despite their hard R rating, so it will be interesting to see if Marvel leans into a more mature rating for this outing.
