Marvel’s ‘New Warriors’ Cast Is Assembled; Milana Vayntrub Will Star as Squirrel Girl

Jul 10, 2017

After being picked up for a 10-episode commitment by Freeform; Marvel’s upcoming superhero comedy New Warriors has been pretty much silent over the past few months. Now The Hollywood Reporter has announced the upcoming cast for the series!

This Is Us star Milana Vayntrub has been cast in the breakout role of Squirrel Girl! She may seem familiar because she is also the AT&T girl for the cell phone service. As well as an accomplished comedian and TV star. Stranger Things star Shannon Purser and Parenthood star Mae Whitman were both considered for the role as well. Purser has openly expressed love for the character of Squirrel Girl in the past. Both were currently held up with contract obligations for other shows including Purser appearing on The CW’s Riverdale.

Baby Daddy star Derek Theler will co-star as Mister Immortal in the upcoming comedy series. Rounding out the cast includes Jeremy Tardy as Night Thrasher; Calum Worthy as Speedball; Matthew Moy as Microbe and Kate Comer as Debrii.

:: Character Descriptions ::

Doreen Green, aka Squirrel Girl is a totally empowered fangirl who has the incredible powers of a … squirrel. Her greatest quality is her optimism and her best friend is a pet squirrel, Tippy Toe.

Craig Hollis, aka Mister Immortal. Craig can’t die … or so he says. Although Craig’s superpower seems amazing, he hasn’t made use of it at all — he figures if he has all the time in the world to learn how to do anything heroic, what’s the rush?

Dwayne Taylor, aka Night Thrasher. Brilliant and noble and maybe a bit full of himself, Dwayne is a shameless self-promoter and entrepreneur who also deeply believes in justice.

Robbie Baldwin, aka Speedball. Robbie is an impulsive people-pleaser with a misplaced sense of confidence who throws kinetic balls of energy that are completely out of control.

Zack Smith, aka Microbe is a shy hypochondriac whose ability is that he can talk to germs that tell him where you’ve been, what you ate and who you hung out with. It’s impossible to keep secrets around him.

Deborah Fields, aka Debrii is proud, funny and quick witted. Confidently out as a lesbian, Deborah is a low-level telekentic, very low like she can move a paper cup.

New Warriors will debut exclusively on Freeform
