Marvel’s ‘New Warriors’ Will No Longer Debut on Freeform; Could Hulu Pick It Up?

Nov 1, 2017

Today, The Hollywood Reporter announced that Marvel is looking to shop their upcoming half-hour comedy New Warriors elsewhere from Freeform. Sources indicate that a pilot has already been filmed for the upcoming series starring Milana Vayntrub as Squirrel Girl. And that it was so well received that Disney wants the show to debut in 2018. However, Freeform couldn’t find the right night to premiere the series next year due to its other original programming.

Now Disney is forcing Marvel to find a new network that is owned by the company only (Freeform use to be ABC Family). It’s highly unlikely that the show lands on ABC since The Inhumans ratings are miserable and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D is on the brink of being cancelled after this upcoming season. Sources say that the show may land on Disney’s upcoming streaming service. However, stress that is a long shot since that service will not be available until 2019 at the earliest.

We at Omega Underground speculate Disney may consider Hulu as another option for the service. With the service already debuting The Runaways later this month. If viewers flock to that teenage superhero series it could be possible the company decides to debut their other young adult series New Warriors there. It should also be noted that Hulu is partially owned by the Disney-ABC Television Group.
