Microsoft Copilot Adds Generative AI Music Engine
Microsoft has collaborated with generative AI music company Suno to enhance its Copilot AI assistant with a synthetic music engine capable of composing songs. The new feature allows users to produce tunes and lyrics by describing the kind of music and lyrics they want to hear.
Generative Music Made Easy
Suno’s technology can generate complete musical compositions, including lyrics, instruments, and vocals, from basic text prompts. Microsoft is making this AI model for music creation accessible through a Copilot plugin. Users can simply enable the Suno extension and ask the AI for any type of music they desire, such as a “romantic ballad about puppies”.
The Rise of Generative AI Music
There has been a recent surge of interest in generative AI music, with various companies developing tools and models to create music from text prompts. Examples include Riffusion, Voicemod’s synthetic song generator, LyricStudio, and Meta’s AudioCraft. However, ethical and legal concerns surrounding copyright infringement and consent remain unresolved.
Controversies and Future Developments
Some artists have faced backlash from fans for using deepfake voices or offering AI-generated songs. Artists are also taking legal action to protect their rights and control over AI creations. Streaming service Deezer is working on AI tools to detect and remove deepfake singers and synthetic songs from its platform, while Google and Universal Music Group are negotiating licensing deals for AI projects and voice clones.
