Jun 22, 2018

Last month, Variety revealed that Paul W.S. Anderson and Milla Jovovich would be reuniting for another Capcom video game film adaptation with Monster Hunter.

They added the $60 million dollar film is set to begin filming in Cape Town, South Africa this September. Likley at Cape Town Film Studios, Sony’s Bloodshot is also expected to shoot at the location over the summer best known for Dredd and Mad Max: Fury Road.

We’ve learned the film is crewing up as pre-production is well underway with cinematographer Glen MacPherson, production designer Edward Thomas, visual effects supervisor Dennis Berardi, and composer Paul Haslinger.

Berardi recently worked on Guillermo del Toro’s Best Picture winner The Shape of Water.

There is word Anderson may also may spend time shooting some of Monster Hunter in Toronto. The Resident Evil director has a long history of shooting a bulk of his films in the city at Cinespace Film Studios. Monster Hunter could be looking at multiple filming locations. For example, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter budgeted at $40 million shot in Cape Town as well but also Toronto, Australia, Germany, and USA.

Jovovich will be next seen in Lionsgate’s Hellboy reboot set for release on January 11th, 2019.
