According to Variety, actress Grace Gummer will play Dominique “Dom” Dipierro in Mr Robot season two. FBI Agent Dipierro will be hunting Elliot Alderson (Rami Malek) and the fsociety crew after the Evil Corp hack. On paper Gummer appears to be a good addition to the cast, having seen her handle Aaron Sorkin dialogue on The Newsroom.  I also appreciate that in the midst of success, show runner Sam Esmail and his team didn’t go for a more established actress. Between the writing, directing, style, and critical acclaim this series doesn’t need or require any additional star power; it makes them.

In Mr Robot season two, Elliot will actually have “men in suits” looking for him; oh this will be interesting! During the season one finale Elliot becomes aware of his mental illness, a disease that often increases both paranoia and hallucinations. In an interview with Esquire, Esmail talks about Elliot’s upcoming struggle with his mental health, “Elliot has to address them. What happens after that realization? What are the steps you take to negotiate with it, reconcile it, fight with it?” Elliot will begin to fight against his own mind, just in time for a legitimate threat to appear. Will he be able to separate Agent Dipierro from the imaginary “men in suits”?

Note, Gummer has signed on to be a series regular. Makes sense considering her character is trying to find fsociety members, Darlene (Carly Chaikin), Elliot, and possibly Mr Robot (Christian Slater) himself. I wonder if Agent Dipierro’s fsociety investigation will lead her to Whiterose (BD Wong) and the dark army? In an interview with the ibitimes, Esmail continues to tease viewers about Elliot still having work to do after taking down Evil Corp, “We see in the coda with that scene between Whiterose and Philip Price that there are larger forces at play. As always.” For more clues about Mr Robot season two read, Mr Robot Season Two: Let the Theories Spiral.

First and foremost I am a TV/Film nerd. Secondly, I am a SceneNNerd writer/blogger/podcaster. At the end of the day, I am a small town Alaskan girl. In 2012 I graduated from the University of Alaska Fairbanks with a BA in Broadcast Journalism. I have aspired to be a writer ever since I became the editor of my high school yearbook. I fell in love with film as a child. My family would always rent movies on the weekend and afterwards breakdown the plot. I have been an avid reader ever since my Harry Potter obsession in elementary school. In college I took a film noir class that changed my perspective on the film/TV medium. I discovered that I could break down a single shot on the screen, just like how I would approach breaking down a sentence in a book. I have been hooked ever since. A good TV show, or film tells a great story. A great TV show, or film includes nuances and subtext that can be explored by nerds like me.
