HBO has announced it’s first casting addition to Jane Goldman’s untitled Game of Thrones prequel series which is said to begin filming next year in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
They revealed via Variety, that Australian actress Naomi Watts (The Impossible, Birdman, King Kong, The Ring) has joined the new cast for the new Thrones series which is said to be set thousands of years before the current show and will reveal the origin of the White Walkers.
Taking place thousands of years before the events of “Game of Thrones,” Goldman’s project chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend–it’s not the story we think we know.
There is a really good chance that this pilot will be ordered to series with Jane Goldman (X-Men: First Class, Kingsman, Kick-Ass, Stardust) co-creating with author George R.R. Martin and she’ll act as the series’ showrunner.
HBO has a total of five spin-offs in the works and Jane’s was the first one to move forward.
It’ll be interesting if we’ll see other big names added to the new lineup or if they’ll go with unknowns like they did with the original show, hiring a few big names with a bulk of the cast being new faces.
