The Nerd Machine took over The Children’s museum of San Diego. They called it the Nerd HQ. It was offsite of Comic -Con and all proceeds of the panels went to Operation Smile an organization designed to help needy child around the world.. I was lucky enough to get an invite to this panel staring the very talented Nathan Fillion. Not only did we get the star of ABC’s Castle, but he also had a special guest on the stage with him. Nathan’s Co-Star from the cult favorite Firefly and his upcoming show Con Man, Alan Tudyk. You may also recognize Tudyk from TV shows Suburgatory, Justified and Arrested Development as well as his many voice acting credit including Wreck it Ralph, Frozen and as Green Lantern in Injustice: Gods Among Us. Fillion and Tudyk paired together brought down the house. Their banter back and forth was just classic and one for the Comic Con history books. If they feed off each other in Con Man as they did on the stage we will be treated to one hell of a great show.
The audience had a few questions for Nathan ranging from his stint on Buffy the Vampire Slayer as Caleb all the way to what was obviously audiences’ favorite show in which he stared, Firefly. Just for those who may not remember Fillion played Captain Malcolm Reynolds on the short lived but beloved Joss Whedon vehicle. Not only was there a question and answer session we also got treated to a live auction in which the two auctioned off on-set goodies from Con Man. Through this impromptu auction Alan and Nathan raised an additional $2,900 dollars. To sum up the event it was just two kind hearted souls who wanted raise money for a great charity and entertain the sold out crowd. It was no secret by the end that but you could tell they loved every second of it, especially helping out Operation Smile.
A big Thank You goes to The Nerd Machine for putting together this great panel and of course for raising awareness and money for the great cause that is Operation Smile. Please follow the link HERE if you would like to contribute, volunteer or donate to this worthy cause.
