Neill Blomkamp Updates On Fox’s Time Travel Flick ‘The Gone World’; Completes 2nd Draft

Sep 22, 2016

We had learned a while back Neill Blomkamp‘s Alien 5 would be delayed because of both Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant and now even further delays due to Sigourney Weaver’s production schedule for James Cameron’s Avatar sequels.

Fox has since hired him to develop a feature adaption of the unpublished time travel novel The Gone World. Weaver had mentioned over the summer that would this would be Neill’s next feature film that could keep him busy while she’s shooting the Avatar sequels, and might see him return to South Africa for it’s production.

Now he’s revealed where he’s at when it comes to the development on The Gone World, stating on Twitter he’s completed the second draft of the script.

It’s interesting to see what this project ends-up looking like considering we don’t often see a lot of time travel films, let alone action centric ones.

We’ve heard that Neill’s wife, co-writer and creative partner Terri Tatchell (Apocalypse Now Now, District 9, Chappie) has been working with him on developing the scripts for both Alien 5 and The Gone World.

A production start hasn’t been announced or even a release date, we’ll keep an ear out to find out if it’s indeed shooting in South Africa or back in Vancouver, British Columbia where Fox has setup shop and where Alien 5 was expected to shoot last fall.

Sigourney Weaver has hinted to a possible cameo in The Gone World as well.

He recently worked on the BMW short film The Escape in Vancouver for the Driver series of shorts starring Clive Owens, that will co-star Jon Bernthal and Dakota Fanning. It’ll be dropping on the BMWFilms website later next month.

Are you excited for more sci-fi action from Neill Blomkamp?
