It’s time to toss a coin to your Witcher once again!
Hot off the heels of the smash hit series premiere of ‘The Witcher,’ Netflix has announced that it is making a new anime spinoff film. Studio Mir will be providing the animation, the acclaimed South Korean studio best known for ‘Avatar:’ The Last Airbender,’ The Legend of Korra,’ and Netflix’s own ‘Voltron: Legendary Defender’ series.
The film is titled ‘The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf.’ ‘Witcher’ showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich will produce, and ‘Witcher’ writer Beau DeMayo will pen the script.
The premise of the animated outing is below:
“The world of ‘The Witcher’ expands in this anime film that explores a powerful new threat facing the Continent.”
Aside from that logline though, details remain quite scarce on ‘The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf.’ Is is unclear if the film will focus on a different set of characters, rather than the principal trio of Geralt (Henry Cavill), Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) and Ciri (Freya Allen) in the live-action show.
Moreover, despite Hissrich and DeMayo’s involvement on the film, it is unknown if the respective ‘Witcher’ titles will share canonical relevancy to one another or if they will be two separate depictions of that world.
While there is no release date as of now, it would stand to reason the film releases this year, between season 1 and 2 of the live-action series. Season 2 of ‘The Witcher’ will premiere next year.
