A few months ago, I wrote about the producers behind the smash hit CW series Riverdale looking to spin-off the series with the character of Sabrina the Teenage Witch. It looks like the series is becoming a reality.
Netflix has picked up the series, which will be based on The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina will be produced by the same team behind Riverdale and Netflix has already ordered it straight to series with a two-year commitment. Many people were expecting the Sabrina series to air on the CW, but there is another witch-based series in development (a reboot of Charmed) for the network and Netflix’s two-year commitment is too good a deal to pass up.
No casting news is forthcoming, but with the commitment from the streaming service, I suspect that production will begin relatively soon. It will be interesting to see whether or not there is any connection between both Riverdale and the Sabrina series now that they are not on the same network. Could a Riverdale/Sabrina episode happen in the near future? We’ll have to wait and see.
