Netflix and Nickelodeon Studios will produce two animated movies together. The films are based on the Nick animated shows ‘The Loud House’ and ‘Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.’
Nickelodeon Studios already produces the animated series ‘Pinky Malinky’ for Netflix. The streaming service is currently developing the ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ live-action series.
Viacom CEO Bob Bakish cited the deal as a sign of Viacom expanded beyond its own channels to deliver content. Additionally, he billed the movies on Netflix as strong promotion that should drive viewing of the existing ‘Loud House’ and ‘TMNT’ series airing on Viacom’s channels.
In 2017, Paramount announced there would be a feature adaptation of the Nickelodeon animated series ‘The Loud House.’ Then, later that year, series creator Chris Savino was fired from the series following allegations of sexual misconduct. The series continued under the guidance of co-executive producer Mike Rubiner. A spin-off series ‘Los Casagrandes’ is currently in the works.
Further, the ‘The Loud House’ film was originally on Paramount’s schedule, holding a February 7, 2020 date. But now, the movie is off their schedule altogether. The Netflix deal may be the reason why it it got the recent removal. Or perhaps the other way around? Either way, it is unknown what happened between Nickelodeon and Paramount.
Meanwhile, the ‘Rise of the TMNT’ film is a new production, without any announcement prior to now. It is likely more animated films from Nickelodeon will join Netflix’s slate in the future.
The two films do not yet have a release date.
